OUR IMPACT

Tree plantation in South Gujarat

Valsad

Project Implementation Plan

Facebook Link:
The project focuses on enabling tribal and rural families to build long-term livelihoods through sustainable fruit tree cultivation. Key components include:

- Distribution of 10,000 mango saplings to approximately 500 families across 8 villages in South Gujarat.
- Conducting awareness and training sessions on plantation, soil preparation, watering cycles, pest management, and long-term care.
- Supporting families with agricultural guidance during the initial plantation phase to ensure sapling survival.
- Creating a roadmap for income generation once trees begin yielding fruit within 3–5 years.
- Working with local organizations and communities to expand the model to more tribal regions.
- The overarching goal is to promote self-sufficiency, livelihood stability, and reduced urban migration through a sustainable, high-yield agricultural asset.

Project Challenges

While the initiative has strong potential for long-term impact, several challenges must be addressed:

Climate Variability: Unpredictable rainfall and heatwaves may affect sapling survival and growth.

Agricultural Knowledge Gaps: Some families may require ongoing guidance to manage plantation and soil health effectively.

Initial Maintenance: The first 12–18 months require consistent care, which may be demanding for families with limited resources.

Logistical Complexity: Transporting and distributing thousands of saplings across remote tribal villages is operationally challenging.

Long Yield Cycle: Mango trees take several years to bear fruit, requiring patience and continuous support.

Results & Outcome

The initiative is already generating significant positive impact:

10,000 mango saplings successfully distributed to families across South Gujarat.

500 tribal and rural households now have a long-term income-generating asset that will support them for decades.

Families are projected to earn stable and meaningful annual income once the trees mature, strengthening their economic independence.

The initiative is helping reduce migration pressure, enabling families to remain in their villages with sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The plantation drive has strengthened local participation and encouraged communities to adopt greener, more resilient agricultural practices.

Growing interest from donors and local groups is paving the way for scaling the model across larger tribal regions.
