OUR IMPACT
Himachal Flood Relief & Long-Term Community Support Initiative
Mandi
The project aims to provide both immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation support to communities severely impacted by floods and landslides in remote Himalayan regions. Key steps include:
- Deploying the KarmaKonnect ground team to assess the extent of damage in affected villages.
- Identifying vulnerable households requiring urgent assistance such as food, clothing, and medical supplies.
- Coordinating with local volunteers and authorities to distribute essential relief kits.
- Conducting village-level assessments to map long-term needs, including rebuilding support, livelihood recovery, and educational resources.
- Mobilizing donor support for ongoing relief and rehabilitation initiatives across flood-prone Himalayan regions.
Difficult Terrain: Remote Himalayan villages are extremely hard to access, with damaged roads and unsafe routes due to landslides.
Communication Gaps: Limited network connectivity made coordination with affected communities challenging.
Recurring Natural Hazards: Continuous rainfall and unstable slopes increased the risk of additional landslides during relief operations.
Resource Limitations: The scale of devastation exceeded the availability of immediate relief resources, requiring urgent donor mobilization.
Weather Constraints: Unpredictable weather conditions delayed travel and slowed the distribution process.
Immediate Relief Delivered: Distribution of food packets, essential supplies, and emergency items to affected mountain households.
Needs Assessment Conducted: Detailed identification of families requiring extended rehabilitation support, including shelter rebuilding and livelihood aid.
Community Trust Strengthened: Presence of the KarmaKonnect team in inaccessible regions reassured local communities and strengthened on-ground partnerships.
Awareness & Donor Engagement: The initiative has encouraged individuals and groups to support ongoing relief efforts across disaster-prone Himalayan regions.
Foundation for Long-Term Support: Assessment findings will guide future interventions such as education support, home repairs, winter aid, and sustainable livelihood projects.
