KarmaKonnect, in collaboration with SEWA Sadhan Bhuj Kutchh and JKSC, is committed to improving the lives of underprivileged communities in border areas across India. This initiative focuses on providing sustainable livelihood opportunities and access to education for families in remote villages, particularly in the Kodi community near the Kutchh-Pakistan border.

• The initiative aims to empower underprivileged families by providing them with thelas (street vendor carts) and sewing machines, enabling them to generate a stable income and become financially independent.
• By encouraging entrepreneurship and self-employment, the project helps individuals establish small businesses, reducing dependency on irregular or seasonal jobs.
• Additionally, the program integrates educational support, ensuring that children from these families have access to literacy and skill development opportunities, paving the way for a brighter future.
• Strengthening community resilience is a key objective, as sustainable income sources reduce vulnerability to economic hardships and improve overall living conditions.
• This holistic approach fosters long-term economic growth, empowering individuals and families to break free from poverty and achieve self-reliance.

Project Challenges

• The challenging terrain and remote access in border villages make it difficult to transport resources, provide training, and ensure consistent support for beneficiaries.
• Many individuals in these communities have limited financial literacy, making it hard for them to effectively manage their businesses, save money, or expand their entrepreneurial ventures.
• Cultural barriers often restrict women entrepreneurs from fully participating in economic activities, as traditional gender roles may limit their ability to work independently or access necessary resources.
• Ensuring sustained engagement and follow-up is crucial, as long-term success depends on continued mentorship, market access, and addressing unforeseen challenges faced by beneficiaries.
• Overcoming these barriers requires strategic planning, local partnerships, and community involvement to create an inclusive and supportive environment for sustainable development.

Results & Outcome

• The distribution of thelas (street vendor carts) and sewing machines has significantly improved economic self-sufficiency, enabling families to generate a steady income and reduce financial dependency.
• By promoting entrepreneurship and employment, local communities have witnessed an increase in small businesses, leading to greater financial stability and a more self-reliant population.
• Educational initiatives focused on literacy and skill development have empowered individuals, especially youth and women, with the knowledge and abilities needed to pursue better job opportunities and entrepreneurial ventures. • As a result, the overall community resilience has strengthened, with families now having sustainable income sources that help them withstand economic challenges.
• This initiative has also fostered long-term social and economic growth, creating a positive impact on future generations in these remote border villages.
