The KarmaKonnect team has been helping these refugees with day-to-day issues since a long time.

Pakistani Hindus have escaped religious persecution and taken shelter at Adarsh Nagar, Delhi. These people are from the Sindh province of Pakistan. They had to leave their home to escape religious and cultural persecution and government apathy. They stopped sending their kids to the school because they were forced to read the Quran in schools. They were laughed at for their religious practices.

In July 2017, KarmaKonnect decided to launch a makeshift school/community center to help the refugee children with education, as well as provide them mentoring on health and sanitation, civic rights awareness. The objective was to build and adopt a model of local empowerment to impart education, civic sense and life skills to these young kids, who often give up on education due to low-quality govt. school infrastructure. The school aims to help these children get an elementary education and assist in their nurturing and growth.

Project Challenges

Pakistani refugees can’t apply for permanent jobs in India and are neither eligible for several livelihood opportunities nor benefited by the government schemes.

Children are not able to get admission in Government schools, as they do not have proper documents. Most of the kids don’t even know how to write and read.

Most men are working on daily wages. Providing them guidance and skills/network-connects to earn better a livelihood.

Lack of basic amenities: Lack of Drinking water and medical facilities. Most of the children are suffering from the water a borne disease like diarrhea.
